Earlier this morning as I looked through the bedroom window I saw a small brown bird with a long white tail.I grabbed the bins and followed it to the gutter on a neighbours roof where it joined a couple of friends.

It turned out to be a House Sparrow with a long piece of staw in it,s mouth. What a disappointment !!! The sparrow then proceeded to push the piece of straw into the gap under a pantile above the gutter where a little beak popped out to receive this offering !!!

My eyes then caught another movement about 6 feet away on the gable end of the same house where a Bluetit was hanging onto the brickwork.Next to it was a small hole in an enlarged mortar joint from which another Bluetit emerged. This one house is supporting at least two nests that I can see.

I know these are not unusual places for nests however interresting it was to watch the action.Have you seen any unusual places for nests.

Down at Wycombe Wanderers Football Club - there is a nest over the top of one of the turnstiles - I keep meaning to take a picture of it......I also think there is a barn owl roosting in the main stand as there are often bird droppings with sizeable 'lumps' in themall over one of the seats in the corner.....fortunately that seat is rarely sat in !

I thought "lumps" were supposed to bring luck. I think you will have to get a few more nesting in the ground.

During the past few days I have heard noises from near our house alarm box area near the eaves of the house, so I am not sure if this is getting investigated as a potential nesting area.

When I was in grade one, (yes that was a wee while ago) a starling had made its way into the shoolhouse one evening and had been checking out my desk as a possible nest site. It left a few gifts on my spelling notebook and unfortunately for the bird it must have collided with the back of the seat on the way out, as there it was lying dead under my seat in the morning.
