I own a Leica Televid 77 scope and with it a 20x - 60x zoom eyepiece which is rather large. I've tried using my current SLR to view through it and I get a circular border around the image, I think it's because of the size of the camera lens. Is there a digital camera that anyone can recommend, any personal faves? Please reply if you can! Much appreciated! :flyaway:

Hi Tim42,

Best thing to do would be to check out Andy Brights Digiscoping forum as there are no end of cameras discussed there.

The old favourites are the Nikon CP9** series such as the CP990 and CP4500 but are now discontinued. Over here the CP4500 can still be bought new. It's still gives everything else a good run for it's money as the quality of results is so good.

The Contax/Kyocera models were looking good replacements but it's recent; been announced they are discontinuing camera manufacture so it won't be long before they are obsolete too. The Contax SL300RT and Kyocera SL400T are still woth consideration as they are so light and easy to operate not to mention the operation of them is so much faster than the Nikon.

Other than that the Canon A95 seems to be performing very well for a lot of people. I haven't tried that one myself yet, but several members have to very good effect. There are a couple of threas about it with demo photos as well as Gallery photos.

These are just a few that spring to mind. From what I have seen and read people are experimenting with DSLRs as well and getting some decent results, mainly by using a small fast fixed lens such as a 50mm or less.

Hi Ian, I guess it really doesn't matter what I buy, it seems it will just be discontinued within a year or so anyway. But you have steered me in a direction that I will explore and help make up my mind. Thanks Ian! B (:
