If only I could convince somebody (Swift are you listening) to make binoculars to my specs...

8.5x magnification
32-35mm objectives
~370 or better FOV
under 10' close focus
fully multi, phase corrected, wp, etc.

My bet is that 8.5x mids are not too far off.

Or how about that Nikon 8.5 x 35 SE (That would get my money.)

Greetings!

I would want a lightweight (28 oz. or less) version of a Leica Duovid, with 7x and 11x as the two magnifications and 46mm objective lenses. If this were available, I'd sell all of my other binoculars if that's what it took to afford them.

Oh yeah... also waterproof Nikon 8x32 SE's.

Best wishes,
Bawko

Easy, a Superior 10x42 SLC that weighs 4 oz. less and focuses 4 ft. closer.

PS. ... with a drop in eyeglass prescription at the ocular.

roof prism, 25 ounces or less, rubber armor
9x magnification
36-40 mm objectives
No color aberrations, bright, good contrast, sharp and crisp to the edge, no distortions,
Fluorite, HD, ED objective lens
superior eyepieces (think Nikon SE), perhaps with aspheric lenses for flat field of view
"take no prisoners" attitude about glass, optics quality, and construction quality
340-370 ft field of view
Excellent depth of field
1.25 turns for the focus knob, smooth, fluid like feeling to the knob, -25 to +50 degrees Celsius function unaltered by temperature
Diopter adjustment safe from mishandling and accidents
3-4 click adjustable eyecups, winged eyecups interchangeable, eyecups sufficiently large in diameter to allow comfortable view
16-18 mm eye relief, design the eyecups so that no blackouts occur
Waterproof to 3-5 meters, shock proof, and bulletproof due to excellent construction, titanium and magnesium materials, and rubber armoring. Durable and strong lens coatings. Resistant to heat, cold, salt, UV radiation, and acid rain.
Split bridge design EL type is ok, but no rattling please.
Lifetime (not mine, theirs) worldwide no fault warranty, replacement binoculars sent anywhere in the world within 72 hours.

i would go for Nikon 9x36 SE, 350-370 ft field of view, SMOOTH focus to -5 or -10 Celsius, waterproof/fogproof, a bit larger diameter eyecups with click stops, excellent depth of field and a bit faster focus, and focus knob wider by 50% . Throw in some ED objectives for good measure.

Save your money. They will probably do that.

Ideally? That would have to be no binoculars at all!

Not bad - add solar-powered image stabilization and I'll buy one pair for $999. ;)

Glad to hear that! Note that I added a capability for inserting prescription lenses.

In about 100 years from now they will be able to take an eagle eye and portions of brain and transplant them to humans not willing to use binoculars.
