It was a nice warm day today, so I decided to sit outside to see if I could find out who was raiding the mealworms I put out for the Bluebirds. All of a sudden a Bald Eagle flew overhead at treetop level. I had never seen one before, and wasn't even sure if we had any in this area. You can't mistake a Bald Eagle for anything else. I was so excited, my heart was pounding and I couldn't wait to run over to my neighbor's house, as she is also a bird watcher. What an experience! I'm still in awe. Sure hope I see it again.

You lucky person. That doesn't happen to many people. Just make sure you get your camera out next time!

Peter, I did have my camera as I wanted to shoot the bird that was raiding the mealworms. However, by the time I slid back the cover (I have an Olympus D550 zoom) and aimed, the raptor was hidden behind the trees flying away from me. I must say a few choice words erupted out of my mouth, but I think my hand was shaking so much I wouldn't have been able to get a good shot anyway.

What a moment. One that I doubt you will ever forget. The photo would have been great for us but you have the memory embedded in your brain for all time.

UPDATE: A friend of a friend, who lives about a quarter of a mile from me on the Brunswick River, has also seen it around. We have ten thousand acres of government property 2 miles south of us, mostly pine trees. It is said to have all kinds of wild life in it, including bob cats, coyotes, and alligators. I guess a Bald Eagle wouldn't be too out of place.
