Hi all, I'm new to this forum and it has taken all day to get in. I'm a beginner to bird watching and my other half is showing me the ropes, so to speak, and it is him who has got me into this. I've been to blacktoft sands a few times and it is a nice place to visit, I've also been to Bempton Cliff's and Titchwell Marsh. A couple of years ago we went to Rutland water (bird fair) and met the man himself Mr Oddie and a very pleasant Chap he is too. I've never been into bird watching due to the childen being too young and noisy. Now they are older and are all at school it makes it easier to get out and visit bird sites but not quite enough time to go any distance. Hope I haven't bored any of you with this introduction :bounce:

Hi Erpgirl
Welcome to the forum, sorry it took you so long to enter the site.

No we are not bored.! In fact we are always interested to hear what our subscribers are up to any where in the world. We will always be interested to hear of your sightings in the field,or garden birds, and if you are a photographer you can even post your pictures (birds or any wildlife). So sit back and enjoy, feel at home.

Hi Erpgirl and welcome to the birdforum, glad to have you with us :t:
Don't worry about being fairly new to birding. It is a passtime that I don't think it really matters when you take it up, just so long as you get to enjoy yourself. I hope that you find the discussions in the forums of interest and feel free to participate, that way everyone gets to learn things of each other ;)

Hi Erpgirl

Welcome to the forum.
One thing about being new to birdwatching is that you've got it all to see!
Good hunting and keep posting.

Thank you all for welcoming me to the Bird Forum. We only have the one pc in our house and it's a fight to who gets on their first, me or funky. Funky is the bird watcher in our family so he will post more comments than me. I will try and post any comment. I will try and get to know some of you as I read your comments and I'll try to reply if I can.

At long last we are out and about on birding. First time out was yesterday since the kids have gone back to school and there was not much about, but the usual. We went to our local haunt Ogston bird reserve and all we sore was Canada geese, Great crested Grebe, greenfinches, Blue tits, great tits and three types of dragonfly which we are going to look up. Hopefully we are going to go to our next favorite spot Blacktoft. Anything about there anyone.

The day is planned for tomorrow as funky wasn't too good today, so hopefully the birds will stay. Normally when I am with him bird watching that is when we see THE RAPTORS. If there are raptors about when he is on his own they all seem to fly off and he doesn't get to see them. People say you should of been here half an hour ago, so he hangs about for another 5hrs and still sees nowt.

That's the story of my life to.
The Hobby, Marsh Harrier, Spotted Crake etc is always showing either just before or just after I am there, but never when!!
Hope it stays fine tomorrow for you, it's lovely and sunny up here today.

Get well Funky!

Hi paj.

We had a great day at blacktoft btw, it was quite misty to start with then the day just got better and better we saw about 19 species of birds all though Funky said it could have been better. Thank you for asking about funky he is a lot better for now. He suffers with bad migraines. We haven't been on for a while as the pc went up the spout and it took a week and a half to sort it out, we made the mastake of buying some new jewel cases for the disks and as they were a bit tight they ended up with cracks up to the data, so we threw away the disks away before we copied them. So when someone on the bird forum said try re-formatting because the pc was running slow and crashing all the time, well we did and thats how long it has taken us to get back on here.

Welcome back Erpgirl and Funky too :bounce:
I thought you must have been away on holiday or something.
I'll have to try and fit in a trip to Blacktoft one day. It's a bit far but manageable. We don't have any RSPB places near to us. The closest one is Bempton which we always enjoy visiting, but even that is just over 100 miles each way.

Hi Erpgirl & Funky

We were wondering what had happened as we hadn't heard from you both for a while.

Glad to see you back and that you enjoyed your day at Blacktoft.
