Hello,

I wonder if anyone knows of a way in which you can digiscope with the Canon A95 and Opticron G665ED? I'm currently using the SDL 18-48x lens, and was told I may have difficulty in fixing an A95 to it.

Grateful for any pearls of wisdom!

Hello Fiona,

find a spare £30, then read this thread:

Problem solved?

first you need an adapter that fits on the A95's "connection ring" around the base of the lens. I would recommend the adater from lensmate on line which gives you a 37mm thread!. http://www.lensmateonline.com/A80adapter.htm.

Then you need a digiscoping adapter for your scopes eyepiece ( with a matching 37mm thread ). I don't know of a specific adapter for the SDL 18-48 lens.
You could try LCE's winchester office: http://www.digiscoping.co.uk/adapters.htm

Phone 01962 866203
Fax 01962 840978

Email winchester@lcegroup.co.uk (winchester@lcegroup.co.uk)

they will make one for you, but I don't know how much!.

Just seen Keiths post above. That may be an even better option.

I have just started digiscoping and I use a A95 with the adaptor mentioned by Blythkeith. The set up works fine on my swaro and once you have mastered getting the adaptor to line up (not too difficult but its worth practising at home before you try it in the field) the results are OK.

Thank you so much for your replies!

I might try for the appetising £30 option (no surprise there then!) - having just spent a wad of my credit card on the scope and bits, think I may need to tighten the budget a little!

Will let you know how I get on!

Keith,

Do you use the Jessops remote shutter cable bracket? How well does this setup work, and does it completely solve the problem of the vibrations caused when pressing the shutter button?

Hi Fiona,

I actually use the Eagle Eye shutter release which is very similar, and the difference it makes is huge - I even use it and a shutter release cable when taking handheld shots, to be honest.

I use the new metal jessops bracket, it does make a difference when digiscoping with an adapter ( get a long cable release ( 2 foot )). Although I do persist in use the camera handheld most of the time!. Haven't tried the cable release whilst handheld yet though!.

Hi Alan,

because the EP on my scope is so big (Zeiss zoom) I've got enough to worry about just getting everything lined up, so using the remote just means that "shutter shake" is one less thing to worry about.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I've now ordered all the bits needed, so it's just a question of getting started when it all arrives!

Cheers,

Fiona

Hello,

Well I'm still stumped!

The camera adapter, Jessops bracket and the cable arrived and so I thought I would try and fix it all up.

I came across a few problems.

1)The overall weight of the adapter that holds the camera in place and the bracket etc seems to put rather a strain on the eye relief hood of the SDL zoom lens.

2) most importantly - I found that the shutter release cable does not extend out far enough to press the shutter down completely - it goes so far, to initiate the auto focus, but not far enough to trigger the picture. The bolt adjuster on the bracket will not allow the shutter release cable to be any lower than it is (it's already actually touching the shutter button!)

3) I found that, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get the camera to be lined up to take the picture of the actual object the scope is focussed on. It will only take a picture of the inside of the scope.

Incidently, I bought the shutter release cable from ebay - no idea what make it is, perhaps the Jessops cable would do the job?

A lot of obstacles to overcome - I'm not being picky or fussy, but I really am stumped! I read somewhere that the SDL 18-48x lens doesn't work as effectively as other lenses when it comes to digiscoping. Might I be better off investing in a different lens?

Any thoughts welcome!
