Good day all -
-- My first posting. With the disappearance of the Nikons with the small front elements ( I have a 990 ) have any of you all attempted to use some of the newer, tiny, digital cameras that have come out on the market?
-- The Minolta X series comes to mind - and with the X50 (3x zoom, 5mp) available for a relatively inexpensive cost - I'd like to see what some have done with this camera, this series, or those of similar size. And found the X-31 for under $150 (3.2mp, 3x zoom, AA batteries) - seems like this could be a great deal.
-- Since all will have similar mounting problems - I'd love to see what others are experimenting with. Like the new small Sony's, Casio's, Pentax, etc.
-- It seems that these with small lens openings might make great alternatives to the Nikons. Each should have plenty of room to center the taking lens on the eyepieces of any number of scopes out there.
-- I've done a bit of experimenting with the cameras and scopes I have and hope to see what others are doing too.

Hi,

Most of my recent photos in the gallery have been done with the Pentax 43WR but the quality is no as good as the CP990. Shortly I will be testing the Sony W1 and the Canon A95. The W1 has promise as I have gotten very decent pics handholding. However I need to play a bit more with the settings since pics are a bit overexposed.

The Fuji E550 might be an interesting camera for digiscoping. I'll borrow it shortly from a friend and test it. It's a 6 MP (they call it 12...) and outputs nice, clean pictures. The zoom range is nice too, as well as the price. It also has a large screen - a bonus for digiscopers, and an optional provision for external lenses (and scope eyepieces with an appropriate adapter). Quite an interesting camera.

Yo Barry and a warm welcome to BF, interesting thread you've started, I'm leaning towards digi-scoping.
