Agree with Tim. The head pattern could be any number of sparrow species, but those primaries are Eastern Meadowlark.

Eastern Meadowlark it is...I'm flabbergasted,thought it was difficult, had back-up pics for further clues...
Perhaps I've underestimated this Allwood character ;)

wasn't sure of wintering range.... western comes pretty far across the states in the south.

not that impressive Lou!

was fortunate (!) enough to spend 10-15 mins looking at an Eastern Meadowlark (Rio Lagartos, Yucutan, Mexico) in the exact same position and seemingly unwilling to turn around. Instantly bought back memories.
