This is a very important 'straw poll' by the EU.
At the moment you could be buying products from anywhere in the world (Burma, N. Korea, China to name three countries which one might wish to boycott as the government uses political prisoners as slave labour) and not know where they were made.
You might actively wish to purchase goods made or grown in country A rather than country B for a host of reasons. At the moment this knowledge is denied you.... your chicken may be coming all the way from Thailand or Brazil with all that that entails in terms of environmental impact, human health and animal welfare.
