Right, my new CP4500 arrived today, I am trying to gain as much info, on how to do everything to get good photos, that is possible. This camera is way more complicated than my last, and don't even get me started on the software!! Its enough to drive you to drink B (: (but not home again afterwards, that would be wrong).
I do however have one question left to answer, and its a question that is not just about digiscoping but all digital photography.
What size should your image be for printing purposes at home? and on an online printing shop? :hippy:
Thanks in advance for your help:t:

i also have a 4500 and always use the fine setting in image quality and 2272x1704 in image size this gives exceptable A4 size photos although i did take a flash photo one on fine one on normal and one on tiff and printed all three to A4 onphoto paper on a canon photo printer and could see no difference between them .I use a 128 card which when digiscoping in fine gives about 90+ shots the camera is not that complicated if you keep practicing with it youll soon get the hang of it good luck

Thanks for that Ragna, I am also interested in printing onto photo paper and trying to get the regular size of a photo from a 35mm camera, do I need to shrink the size of the image or adjust it to fit?

if you mean 10x 8 6x8 etc im not sure my canon printer came with some software but not being into computers (im a bit to old) i dont use it i only use photoshop elements which you would have got with your 4500 , but i think you can resize your image to match 35mm , try altering your image size to 2272x1520 page 103 in the manual .but like you im still playing with it

Hi Ashley. If you mean which size should you take the photo in, always use the largest resolution size available. This will provide the best quality. Then if you want to down size it, do so on your computer. You will still save the quality that way. However, before doing any work on it, save it as a TIFF file first. This type does not compress the file, so no quality is compromised. Once you have edited any way you want, then re-save it to a JPEG for Internet use. If you are printing, you can just print the TIFF. I say this because whenever you save to JPEG, it does compress so you do lose a little quality each time. Let me know if this does not make sense.

Save as TIFF for uncompressed file? Not necessarily. It depends on the digital manipulation software you are using. Certainly save and manipulate an uncompressed version, but in Paint Shop Pro, which I use, the proprietry .psp form is appropriate and in Photoshop the corresponding format should be used.

Hi Ashley
I think that what you are trying to do is print your pictures at 6X4 as in normal photograph size.
The best and easiest way to do this is as I do, I have created a folder (titled 6x4s) into this I copy, not drag and drop, right click>copy to folder, all of the images that I want to print, I then resize them to 1800X1200 pixels at 300 pixels per inch you may want to sharpen them at this stage, and save them at this size in that folder without re-titling so it writes back over the copied file ( you don’t need to keep a full file as well in this folder) In this folder I have created a new ‘image’ which is a blank white page which is 1900X2500 pixels and saved that as a template, when I want to print the 6x4 pictures I open the template and copy and paste the images that I want to print onto it, move them to position and (you can save this too if you like, if you are likely to print them more than once.) then click file>page set-up and select A4. Set print size to 100% and you will get two pictures exactly 6x4 at 300ppi perfectly printed on an A4 sheet. I use a small guillotine to trim them after.

Nigel
Being new to the Bird Forum and Bird photography I have been trawling the site for useful information which may be useful for improving my bird photography.
I have just come accross an old article on printing , which I have already found of great use thanks.
thanks
