Well, what can I say, what an experience! We spent hours waiting quietly for the right moment and then it was total bedlum!! Around 60 birds caught in the net, released within about 10-15 mins and no casualties, bird or human!! Approx (from memory) 24 Greylag, the remainder being made up of Coot and Wigeon with one each of Blackheaded Gull, Oystercatcher and Moorhen. First time for me ringing 'bigger' birds and what a handful they are! Bitten on the nose by a coot and pooped on by just about everything! Didn't think for one minute that I'd be able to handle a Greylag but I did :) At the end of the day, totally and utterly exhausted but very happy.

Sounds like a great day Annie, what a lot of lovely birds. Were they all new ones? We had a work day last Sunday and made 31 nestboxes.

Nope LMG there was a good mixture of new and old!! Quite a few adults in the catch. The birds that impressed me most were the wigeons specially the adult males, beautiful!

way to go Annie- sounds like you had a very fufilling day. Now when you say 'cannon netting' I get this picture of a huge net being fired from a cannon type machine? It must be quite large to net 60 birds at once. Glad to hear there were no casualties or injuries and hope your nose recovers soon.. ;)
