Size, colour-tones and the short, barred tail all suggest Carolina Wren to me.

It's some kind of Wren.But me have no book on American birds...

I think the same as dimitris, (and streatham and bluetail, tho' i wouldn't have known to guess carolina) some kind of wren (can anyone tell me how we've come to have only one (?) species of wren in the old world, when they've got dozens in the new?)

I do hope someone will respond to James' question, as I am also curious. I have some thoughts on the subject but would be very interested in knowledgeable response to this question on evolution. Rasmus, Tim Allwood, Jane Turner, anybody? Barbara
