Well, I had some spare time this evening, so here's another quiz.

Which species do these supercilia belong to? All have occurred in the Western Palearctic.

Hope they're big enough to see!

Happy guessing!

These are obviously harder than I thought!

None correct so far. In fact, no one has guessed the correct genus yet. Dimitris, you are right, you most probably have seen that eye somewhere!

I should say that number three is slightly silhouetted against strong light, so looks darker than it is in real life.

I'll wait a while more before giving more clues.

2. Dotterel

Well done, Joern! The first picture is indeed Wood Sandpiper, a spring bird, taken on March 9 this year.

As for the others, keep trying!

Not Western Crowned or Dusky. Pic was taken in December in Singapore. That should give it away!

Yes, Arctic Warbler it is.

Of the others, two are passerines and one a shorebird. All are on the British List.

Cheers,

Dave

5. Only one member of this genus has made it to the UK, and this is it.

What an eejit!

4 is Olive-backed pipit - look at that little black bit in front of the eye.
5 For some reason thought you had said it was a warbler, so went down the wrong track. It is my first thought - Cercotrichas galactotes, Rufous bush-robin?

4. Indeed it is! Not the best pic you'll ever see, but identifiable none the less. Taken in northern Thailand in January.

5. I didn't know Rufous bush-robin had occurred in the UK. Oh well, that's not it anyway. Some say that the little black loral spot is a good feature, though it isn't on all birds I see. You're likely to hear this one before you see it.
