Evening all!

Can any of the Norfolk/Suffolk members (or regulars) give me a hand in locating the best site for Golden Oriole these days?

Past visits to Lakenheath & Fordham have both been successful and unsuccessful, but havent been down for afew years now. Wondering if there are any new/better sites recently.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob

Lakenheath RSPB is the place these days...although a far cry from the trespassing on British Rail days!

Hilgay/Fordham reportedly no good

although i would try early morning at Fordham as you never know.....

I am confident that Fordham is devoid of Orioles now and has been for a while. It would be great to be proved wrong though.

Lakenheath is still the best place to go, allthough I was there on the Saturday and didn't even hear them. I was talking to an RSPB man there and he reckons that they haven't sorted out their nesting sites yet so are not coming out into the open just yet. They also don't appear to be calling as much as usual so far.

There have been fleeting glimpses of them but not regular ones. It might pay to wait until the pagers announce regular sightings of them before going for them.

BTW there are plenty of Hobby's flying amongst the many Hirrundines there and that goes someway to not seeing the Orioles.
