I'm considering a pair of Zeiss 7x42 binos and wondered if any of you have experience with Zeiss customer service? Would appreciate all comments good and bad. Thanks.

A few months ago I bought a pair of Zeiss 8x42 FLs. They are terrific bins and I have no complaints whatever about their quality. However, about one month after buying them the little circular cap the covers the tripod attachment point fell off and was lost. I phoned Zeiss about this and was told, initially, that I'd have to send the bins back to them and it might take two months to replace the cap. When I complained that this was ludicrous and that they should simply send me a new cap they agreed, but then said that it might take a month or two to get a new cap to me (from Germany since there were none in the US). It is now about a month since then and I am still waiting. Seems to me that this is something really easy to fix and a customer should not be waiting weeks or months for a simple replacement part. Perhaps Zeiss should waited on their US launch of these bins until they had obvious replacement parts in stock. While the people that I have spoken to at Zeiss have been very helpful and friendly I am not all that impressed by the Zeiss service.

What tripod attachment point?

Yes, mine doesn't have one. He might mean the small plastic cap that sits on the front end of the hinge. Mine pulls off and seems to be a cosmetic item. The hole it plugs does not seem to be threaded.

Not threaded? You must have defective bins. ;) But seriously, the FL really should have a tripod mount: I use one of the hokey strap contraptions.

Hi to all,

I purchased a new 8x20 B T Victory made in Hungary. I played with them for a month and concluded something was not in agreement between them and me. Then I decided to put my faith in Zeiss in question and tested the binos; they were out oc collimation, one image exactly above the other, which is one the worst forms of torture to the human eyes. Zeiss in the USA asked permission to send to Germany, (not to Humgary) for service. Now: I am waiting.

After this said, I found the individual images of the 8x20 Victory to be very good across the field. Resolution and contrast are high. I, just hope they will be back adjusted to what they are potentially capable. The pair was not cheap.
