Does anyone own this binocular? I'm looking at getting one for $769, which seems like a really good price.

There awsome optically, you won't give up anything to any of the newer binos. The view is outstanding and there probally the brightest bino I,ve ever owned, and I own alot. Huge fov, good ER. They are tanks in the weight department, as they weigh more than many 50s out there. There also not as sleek as many of the newer models, meaning there cumbersum compared to models out now. They sold for about $1200 to $1300 when they were still in production. Hope this helps.

The bin is also poorly balanced, eyecups are very tough to turn back for eyeglass use, and focus control is difficult with gloves. The 7 x 42 Classic, IMHO, offer 99% of the optical performance in a package that is actually usable in the field. Given the prior comments, it is not surprising that the 7 x 45 had a very short production life.

Is this the "Night Owl" model others have told me about?

I agree with Chartwell99 about these binoculars. I only saw them once, but even with a Zeiss rep standing behind me extolling their virtues I found I actually preferred the image from the 7X42 Dialyt I was comparing them to. I'd be surprised if Zeiss sold ten of these to birders. It's odd that the recessed focusing knob of the Night Owls, only accessable from the top, continues to this day in the 56mm Victories.
