My great spotted woodpeckers love to play peek a boo, which really makes me smile, as they look so comical. When there is danger they fly away or hide behind a tree branch. If it's safe to come out of hiding, they peer around the branch slowly and often dart back again - now you see me, now you don't! What bird behaviour makes you smile?

Dunlin and the way they probe the mud in what the books call a 'sewing machine action'. Personally 'woodpeckers in the mud' springs to mind

the wren- one occasion springs to mind. In the garden on a sunny afternoon.....must a got a little bit too close to the wrens "crib"..he emerged from the brambles and started shouting at me"chak chak tic tic..."..i walked away na dhe burst into song as if to mock me. I could have had him though!

Wood Pigeons - despite millions of years of evolution, they still haven't learned it's easier to fly round branches than through them. A tree-full of disturbed Woopies sounds like some form of secret weapon going off.

I once saw a male House Sparrow pestering a female until she became quite sick of him. She flew up into a small weeping willow tree with him in hot persuit, hovering in front of her like a huge clumsy Hummingbird!
The funny bit came next, quite amzingly, she snapped out at him enough to grab him by the neck feathers. He hung motionless few a few seconds until she let go and he flew off.
One of the most remarkable things I have ever seen.

As stated before the lolipops are my fave, but what about the green woodpecker when startled, head snaps up, beak pionting up and pretending he's not there, totally motionless, I always imagine him saying "I'm definately not here"!! so comical, and yet, the magpie with his bouncing sidestepping gait can also be very comical. I always enjoy a good game of football played by the local ravens using a pop can for the ball! I love all their antics, they have got to be the comedians of the bird world.

Shovellers- when they swim round in circles, each one following the others’ backside. I wonder if they never get dizzy! And Blackbirds- if they didn't make such a racket when they try to hide we wouldn't even see them!
