I love Blue Tit's too, in fact all of the Tit family appeal. They remind me of miniature Jay's and seem pretty resouceful and intelligent like them too. I wonder if they are distantly related?
My favourite (too many favourites really) is the House Sparrow. Time after time I come back to them.
Fieldfare or wheatear are possibly my favourite thrushes, love Crows too.

I know I'm reported as being the raptor lover but the longtailed tit always raises a stupid grin that splits my face from ear to ear, as I think of them as the lolipop bird, they congregate on the nut feeder right outside my window from where I can see them whilst at the PC, and their tails stick out in all directions, looking like they were a bunch of sticky lolipops stuck fast to the tube. Have to agree about the Tits, they are so funny, i once saw 4 Blue Tits playing in a tree in my old house, they were so full of antics, one just lost it completely and ended up hanging upside down with the other 3 sitting on the same branch watching in amusement, it managed to free itself and came back and barated the other three, very funny moment.

I love Blackbirds. I really enjoy watching them hop about the garden pulling up old leaves and branches looking for food. I also love Blue Tits and Goldfinches. I saw 2 Blue tits chase away a couple of Goldfinches from my peanut feeder earlier on today. One of the Goldfinches came back and I managed to get a picture of a Blue Tit and a Goldfinch on the one feeder.

My favorite birds are bluebirds ! They nest each spring, and summer in my yard, and come daily for mealworms that I raise. The robins are my next favorite. Two have formed a friendship with me, and will come for mealworms, red, or green grapes, and apple slices. I also have a female eastern oriole that comes to the bluebird feeder for mealworms, and comes to drink the grape jam mix that I put out. I mix grape jam,and water half, and half. Oriole, mockingbirds, and yellow-rumped warbler all come to get some. They all are very fascinating to watch.

Toucha, what is a red bird? And what kind of blackbirds do you have?

Tammie, here in the states we call the northern cardinals red birds. I also have a lot of them in my yard. There is a pic of one as you enter this site.

I love the black-capped chickadee for its friendliness and courage. They don't seem to know how tiny they are. They are my favorite winter bird (although they stay all year round). In the summer my favorite is the gray catbird. The beauty of their song more than makes up for their lack of color. They are also active and inquisitive. I have deciduous forest behind my house here in south central Pennsylvania, USA.

Hoopoe is my favorite, My wifes just as interest is lapwing, she likes the sound (says it sounds like a space invader) so much we now own a soft toy from the RSPB that imitates its call.

It's sooooooo hard to choose!!
At the moment, at least, I'm terribly fond of a sweet little female Cardinal who is coming to my feeders regularly -- she's lighter than usual, and has a very pale buffy breast. The males certainly consider her a beauty, too, because she has a very attentive mate!
A favorite this spring is the Red-winged Blackbird I have coming to the feeders for the first time. I can hear him approaching, with his song getting closer and closer.
But I think my all-time, overall favorite is the Great Blue Heron. Doesn't come to my feeders, of course, but it was the very first bird I identified on my own, the bird that caused me to go out and buy my first field guide.

my n0 1 bird is the blackbird he is so full of life, the way he struts his stuff, and his song is the best of any of our songbirds.
.2nd is the coal tit what a little beaut.

As with most things Sam and I have another difference of opinion on this one! Her favourite is the Swallow and mine is the Pied Wagtail. With regards to those that regularly come to the garden, we agree that the Blackbird is king of the castle!

Kestrels, I love seeing them hang in the air and then dive.
Second would be jackdaws.

Any of the caprimulgidae. But especially European Nightjar - the 'song', and the whole atmosphere of going to see them, is unlike anything else. Fan-bleeding-tastic.

I believe my favorite bird is the little Golden-crowned Kinglet. It is quite a bit like the Firecrest you have "over there".

G'day Euan,
Hmm I suppose those that live with me are my favorite birds.
"Eggy" my orphaned and raised from closed eyes near nude Aus. white backed magpie and of course her height challenged Pelaero the pelican.
Eggy thinks Pelaero is a big unusual sounding magpie :^D>>>
Hope this helps Ooroo from Pen of the south

Hi Euan - I think my favorite is the graceful Curlew with it's haunting call - I love the memories the call brings back of beautiful landscapes where I have watched them.

Impossible task, but I tried to think what I most admire seeing here, and it's the bands of Azure-winged Magpies, handsome, intelligent birds with a unique distribution, and I always consider how lucky I am to live within their range.

Personally I think your favourite bird depends on what mood you're in but if I had to choose it would be tough call between the Swallow and the Bullfinch.

Mine would have to be the Baltimore Oriole. I've been lucky enough to have several this summer on my oriole feeder I placed outside my living room window.

A real toughy this. In the garden its either the Tits, Robin or Blackbird. The hot weather has induced one to literally bath in the birdbath. I got the feeling he wanted a shower attachment.
As to outside the garden? Kingfisher. I have a soft spot for Mallards and Ruddy Ducks.

My favourite would be the Nankeen Kestrel back in Oz, pretty little bird that I used to love to watch hovering.
Locally, here in the US, it would be the Chestnut-backed Chickadees. They're funny, sound like a squeeze toy, constantly active and let you walk almost right up to them to take photos. Little bundles of joy and personality.

Actually, having changed my avatar once each month, I'll give it a rest for a while. You can all see my ugly mug for a while longer now.
Further up this post I gave my possible favourite birds and I have to agree with Billy Boy that it does change from time to time though I will never forsake the humble House Sparrow.
At the moment, Green Woodpecker (though I havn't actually seen one in life).
Love the Australian Pardalote's too. They are just too cute.

Hi Steve, I'm with you on that one, I suppose the "humble House Sparrow" reminds me of the nice times in my childhood, hot summer days, deep crisp white snow (in winter), etc. etc. LOL

Hi Steve,
That's bad luck missing out on Green Woodie - my best site for them locally is Broomley Wood just west of Stocksfield, I usually score with them there. Plenty of public footpaths additional to the ones marked on the map (link below), the wood owner is committed to public access; car park where the B6309 crosses the railway.

Thanks Michael. I'm off work next week so apart from some decorating ("IN SUMMER" I can hear you all saying) I may just call along there. Thanks for that.

How do you define "favourite?" The fact that it makes you smile? But why does it please you? Beauty? Intelligence? Singing ability?
Anyway... I admire the Northern Mockingbird and European Starling for their songs, intelligence and personality. To me they are beautiful, especially starlings, but some may disagree.

Good to see so many people saying Blackbird from this side of the pond. I'd have to go along with that although they do take themselves a bit seriously sometimes.
Bullfinch are very charismatic too.

I don't know where to begin... I've got so many 'favourites'. Little owl and turtle dove would be high on my list... as would peregrine, great grey shrike, kingfisher, smew, lesser whitethroat, lesser spotted woodpecker... I guess I'm cheating!
(Of the exotic birds I've seen in other countries, Asian paradise flycatcher stands out in my memory as one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. But I can hardly call it a favourite as I only saw it a few times!)
I know which I would regard as the wierdest bird I've ever seen... beach stone-curlew off the NE coast of Australia. When I saw it in a book I thought, what a dreadful drawing, no bird looks like that... but it did!

My favorite has to be the goldfinch. I love to see them sitting on the teasels that I grow in the garden to pull the seeds from them.
2nd has to be the tit family with the many varied exploits .
