Seen alot of positive info on the 4500 but some negative focusing problems as well, compared to the 990... Any advice for either camera coupled to a Nikon Fieldscope?

Hi Chris.
I opted for the 990 when I started out digiscoping only because of the plethora of batteries I had from another camera that would fit the 990. That was really the only reason but I can't say that I have ever been disappointed with the results. I am now looking for a substitute as like all well used cameras, they eventually go to that camera spot in the sky ;) I am now looking for a replacement 990 in good condition but I don't hold out hopes of finding one.

Hi Chris
I started digiscoping a year or so ago and have got really into it, although my results are still rather mixed I feel the 'problems' are not in the equipment. The 4500 has a 4x zoom which aparently produces a poorer image at full zoom than the 3x 990 - I can see the logic of this so I dont normally use the 4500 at full zoom. I have just changed my EDIIIA scope for the 82EDA and using the nikon adaptors makes the whole set up easy and convenient to use. I would recommend the 4500 they can be had for good money now they have been discontinued. You will always read good and bad about any product - the grass is always greener!!. Whichever you choose you will have to experiment with settings (again opinions differ) and some expertise with photoshop helps. I have a blog www.birdyde.blogspot.com where I list the camera settings I am currently using. You can see some example pictures of mine taken with the 4500/EDIIIA combination - I hope they don't put you off, remember I'm still learning.
