Wow Euan, it looks great! We're hoping to put a pond in someday too. Can you tell me how big your pond is and how deep?

It's lovely Euan. I would love to attempt this but my whole yard is what they call "gumbo" a mixture of clay and sand and it is so difficult to dig in. After seeing yours though I am tempted.

this is what it was like before plans of the pond came about a very un interesting rockery that no one bothered to look at a big improvement

Looks like you will be spending a fair bit of time there now Euan!
Ponds are so interesting to watch I always find. I recommend you make room for a place where you can lay on your front and peer in for ages.
Looks really good.

Nice one Euan - i`ve the same pond in my garden and its completely overgrown. Tried cleaning it out a bit last winter and now realise i`ve removed my lillies. boo.
I`m sure you`ll have a lot of fun watching various birds come to bathe and drink - unfortunately mine attracts lots of cats aswell.
KCFoggin - no need to dig - our yard is completely paved, but you can buy easy build drystone type walling from most DIY stores and make a square/circle wall a couple of feet high then place a pre-moulded pond inside to be level with wall top. Fill the gaps with earth and plants. Sit back and enjoy.

And may many birds come to drink and bathe there! Hi, Euan, I'm in your backyard so to speak, just outside Edinburgh and I've just joined today, so it's great meeting someone so close to home when I'm so new and green to all this.... My pond is just a large stonesaucer for gardenpots, about half a metre accross and 5 centimetres deep, but hey does it attract a lot of birds, so you'll have them coming in hordes. From the Bluetit

Hi Euan
We moved into a brand new house 3 years ago, nothing in it at all bot even a blade of grass. Spring '03 we dug a pond and we have certainly been rewarded. Not only do the birds love it for drinking and bathing but the insect life is wonderful. We now not only have frogs but a pair of newts so we are thrilled.
Hope you get as much enjoyment from your pond as we have from ours.
