One has ED glass the other does not. both are very good the ED glass will come in handy for photography.

Have you ever compared them side by side in low light conditions? I own the ed version, my friend is thinking of getting one but there is no local store that has both.

Ill try to compare tomorrow .As dull as it is here lately conditions should be perfect for low light comparisons.

I went out to my deck at dawn this morning & again just now 6pm .I took fieldscopes 60 mm ed & non ed also a 65 ed pentax ed .observing birds including a couple of pheasants & a car & lawn tractor about one half mile away .[car& tractor not birds .] I honestly after much peering till my eyes ached couldnt notice any difference .Its 6 30 pm now ,half dark , still cannot notice any dif, All exellent scopes .BUT, i would think for most work its not worth spending extra for ED.

Just curious what eyepiece's you are useing. My TF3 "ed3" came with the mc 20-45x zoom. Recently I picked up the MCII 20-60x zoom. I will be comparing these 2 eyepieces this week.

Good to hear how well received the non-ED version is, but for any photographic use, the IIIED will prove itself superior with less colour fringing for a start.

On my EDIII, it felt like I had a new scope. So, I'm curious about your results.

I'm curious - how have you found the TF3? Looks to me just like a 60ED Fieldscope -is this how you see it? There are some good prices out there for them if they are Fieldscopes traveling incognito....

Yes it is the same as the ED3 only it is black. One difference is you can not buy the body only. It comes as a package form nikon with the mc 20-45x zoom. I think nikon came out with the TF3 for hunters, and law enforcement. The Tactical Fieldscope 3 is just a different marketing approch. Oh yea and it is a sweet scope! :scribe:

Thanks! I had been looking at the Pentax scopes as well but the fact that Nikon has a converter that fits the Fieldscope to my D50, making an 800mm zoom with full control has me pretty wired up. Plus, Amazon has this for a very attractive price right now. I look forward to getting one!
