Is anyone familiar with Hawes Water Resevoir??? My brother saw what he is sure was a BOP yesterday but was not able to ID it, it was very high and just gliding in the thermals, he describes it as 'big' with 'pointed' wings and that's about all, couldn't get colour due to brightness of sun etc.........

Does anyone know which BOP's one might expect to see in that area??

Hi Annie,

There's a pretty good chance of seeing both Buzzards and Golden Eagles above Haweswater. I believe the latter have bred nearby for several years.

Of course nowadays there's always chance of an Osprey roundabouts too, but one of them former seems more likely.

At the west end of Haweswater, Riggindale, Golden Eagles are often seen. As it is the Golden Eagle's 'patch' there is a good chance it was that you saw. A great moment.
