So, here we are in autumn at last and the first of several trips I'm planning for the next two or three months is this saturday. I've decided on Holme as I've passed the signpost on the A149 more times than I can remember and always said "I must go there one day". Having never been there before, I'm wondering if there are any tips that anyone can give me on the best way to work the place, likely migrant traps etc?
Any info would be gratefully received (including how safe the car park(s) are likely to be as I don't have a load cover in my car at the moment so anything I can't carry with me will be left on show!)

Cheers

Take a 4x4 for the track to Holme!

So bumpy, I turned away.

Although I tend not to go there very much unless something good turns up I think it is a reasonably good reserve.

The track isn't too bad and you can always walk from Holme village.

There are a number of hides were close views of birds can be had and there are good areas of scrub/pine trees etc around the main reserve building.

There are also trapping areas in the scrub behind the main reserve building.

The path that runs along the sea shore has scrubby bushes along it where I have seen Bluethroat.

The sea can be quite distant at low tide but good seabirds have been seen here!

One more thing, the area can be good for Red-backed Shrike on gate posts/fences along the main track in the autumn

Thanks for that, I was sort of optimistically hoping for that as I checked the BirdGuides bird map for the 3rd of September 2004 and lo & behold!........;)

There seems to be a few decent warblers turning up round that way now too so I'm keeping my fingers X'd for something good.

The track to Holme is not that bad,and your car would be safer down there than in the car park by the beach.I'm going down for a week on Saturday,so may see you about somewhere.
