Little Egret
Scaly-breasted Lorikeet

Sunday 4th September 2005, 12:54
Hi Dimi
didn't see your first batch of pix
hope u liked Oz
wouldn't disagree with MSA's birds but Torresian is impossible? to do on those views from Little and the duck could possibly be an Aussie Shoveler, again hard to split from the teal on those views!
Tim
MSA
Sunday 4th September 2005, 14:24
Hi Tim
I ruled out Aus Shoveler by (limited) extent of white on flanks, and lack of any white in wingtips.
As for the crow, a little secret - I guessed the commonest one!
PS looking at the pose on our Avatars, it would appear that John was doing a Westie impression!

James has some good ideas:
1. Cracticus - but looks more like nigrogularis than torquatus to me.
2. I will go along with it being a male alternate Malurus, it could be lamberti, it could be amabilis which is my guess
3. Tough one. A Riflebird is a good guess, though which one depends on where we are!
4. Libriscriptor rotundicaudus - the first photo that I have seen. Long believed extinct. Obviously an adult male in alternate plumage.
5. Golden Whistler - I'll go along with that!
Dimitris
Wednesday 7th September 2005, 10:42
1,2&5 have been solved.
3)Riflebird?Since when to Riflebirds land on lawns?Try again.A much commoner bird.I'll post another piccie soon.(Though I wouldn't mind it being a Riflebird).
