that is good for the birds.
I have these so what else can i add as my sunflowers have had it and i have a space. It would be in a sunny spot but rather open to the S/W winds in Winter so i guess fairly hardy

Cotoneaster(3)
Berberis(4)
Sea holly(1)
Pyracantha(3)
roses(how long is a piece of string!!!)
Honeysuckle(4)
ivy(everywhere)
Budlea(2)
Lavateria(2)

And a few others but i think the above covers the Bird or insect attractors.

Anyone suggest a Newbie to plant thats good for them and fits the conditions above?

alnus glutinosa aurea (golden alder) nice colour in the sun, native and good food in the form of bugs and beasties that eat it and the seed heads.

or one of the forms of prunus padus all of which are nice.

If you don't want a tree/shrub, what about Sedum spectabile and Michaelmas Daisies? Both good for insects - especially late butterflies when there is little else in flower.
