Hi all,
I want to take (try) some images right down at sea water level, in the water if I have to, but NOT under, about 3 to 6 inches above water level.I am going to take images of waders/geese etc, windsurfers, jet skiers etc at water level.I may actually be in the water!!!.
This may be a ONE OFF attempt, and therefor do not want at this point to go go down the road of waterproof housings etc.
I can cover the lens and camera enough to protect them, but my main concern is the front element of the lenses, ie 300/2.8 and/or 500/4 , very big front elements and also NO filter threads.Salt water on these could be a serious problem!!
Outside dias of lenses are approx 108mm and 110mm (pretty big filters and expensive if they exist).
I would be happy to "blue tack" or "tape" on something as an OPTICAL solution.
ANY SOLUTIONS/IDEAS please

regards Pelerin.

Try cling film.

Many thanks Henry, but having tried it in the garden it gives a soft image ,could be good for small children or wrinkled old ladies, but not for what I want.
I will see our local glazier and see if he is capable of cutting a suitable circle of thin good glass.
Thanks for your effort

You could try an angled mirror and look down into it but you will lose image quality with a rear-silvered mirror due to internal reflections in the thickness of the glass.

or...

put your camera in a fish tank, put a lid on it and use a cable release!

with a filter on the lens I have seen people put a poly bag over the camera and lens and then trap the open end of the bag in the filter threads.

(no warranty offered or implied - this sounds like a potentially expensive experiment - good luck!)

Thanks Adrianf for your input but I am going down the cut glass route, at this time.
