Your site looks interesting, Chris. I live quite close to a riparian habitat, and am shamed to say that I've never really investigated it. I'll have to start doing some walks over there, as it's only a block away. It's a small creek -- Spy Run Creek -- that passes through a small park that edges my neighborhood. I can easily walk a quarter- to a half-mile of creek side. The small park is a mini-flood plain, then it runs along a hillside. It's been channeled, roughly, but quite some time ago, and not a lot of time has been spent keeping it up, so to speak. It's quite urban, located in the middle of a city of 200,000+, but even though there are apartment buildings and homes located within 100-200 feet, it's somewhat overgrown. I'll have to make a point to check it out!
I hope we'll be getting some posts telling us more about what you're seeing along Coyote Creek. Thanks!

Hi Beverly,
Definately make the effort to check things out along your creek - you may be plesently surprised. The work described on my website took place at the southern end of San Francisco Bay, California. Despite heavy development, the area is being use heavily by birds. While protection of large tracts of land is vitally important, it is amazing to me how much value is retained even in these small areas!
