Hi

I have a Toshiba PDR-M4 digital camera. It is probably not the best camera in the world @2.1mega pix but it worked fine for website stuff and casual photography. The problem is that whenever I 'half press' the shutter to allow the camera to adjust for the light, there is some whirring inside (which is normal) but the picture now goes out of focus :C .

Does anyone know what is causing this or whether I could fix it or possibly would it be worthwhile getting it fixed professionally and by whom?

Thanks in advance

Russ

For an old, depreciated camera like that your best bet would be to just get a new one, don't bother trying to get it repaired.

Half-pressing the shutter causes the camera to do 2 things - to take a ligth reading, and to focus. So, when it appears to be going out of focus, it is trying to focus. Sometimes cameras cannot focus properly depending on conditions. One common cause is if there are no strong VERTICAL lines in the center of what you are aiming at. If this is the case, aim toward something approximately the same distance away that does have a vertical edge, half-press the shutter till it focuses, then reframe the image to what you want to shoot while continuing the hold down the shutter half-way.
