Looking for reviews/opinions on these lenses, the zooms or telephoto in particular.

Henry I assume you mean the cheap lens you see on ebay. This question has been asked many times on the forum. As yet I have not seen anybody have a good word for them. I think the bottom line is you get what you pay for. In general cheap lens can give fair results in good light. They tend to suffer from a lack of definition when fully zoomed, poor contrast and colour fringing on the edge of the frame in bright conditions. I have experienced cheap, mid price and Canon L lens. I would not go back to using cheap lens again. I have a number of lens I've kept in my gadget bag just in case and the truth is that they have never been back on the camera since the upgrade. The moral I have learnt with lens is to buy the best you can afford otherwise it won't be long before you regret cutting corners.
The Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II DG is recommended by many for a cheap lens that does not burn too big a hole in your pocket.
