If its any help you can use he edge of a piece of cardboard to clean electrical contacts. When I had the day job I used this method to clean silver and gold contacts.

yes it seems ok now, went wrong when using a 1.4 converter, took that off, and the problem was still there, managed to clean the contacts with a lens brush, the contacts didn't look dirty to me...??
can you use an alcohol based cleaner, like a sensor wipe ??

I would use a pencil eraser.

I would use a pencil eraser as well. I'v found that my 70-200 IS will give me an error 01 message when I shoot it vertically with the IS on and it happens far more often when I use aftermarket batteries in my 20D. I suspect it has something to do with the power source when IS is turned on. What equimpment were you using when this happend?

i use 2 canon batteries fully charged in a BG-E2 grip,i tried it with IS off,and AF,but it just seemed very temperamental. :-C
