View Full Version : Which tripod and head?

I have a 20D, Canon 70-200L with tripod collar. The problem is that I cannot get absolutely sharp images with my current tripod/head. I have Manfrotto 441 and 055 legs, 329 and 128 heads. It doesn't matter which combination I use them in, the images at slow shutter speeds are soft to varying degrees. Longer than 1 second, no problem.

I'm thinking about upgrading to Gitzo 1200 or 1300 series with possibly a Kirk BH1 ball head. However, I'd hate to spend all that cash and not be able to see a real improvement in image quality. Any suggestions?

Are you using mirror lock up for your long exposure shots? What about a cable release? If not, give it a try before you upgrade your tripod.

See my earlier link that compares to outboard motors with and without mirror lock up being used, F4speed is right about trying the other options before you spend your money.
