Slow Canon software

I've just invested in a Canon EOS 1DMark II N. I have a Nikon D100. I am finding the software which came boxed with the camera much slower to use with the Canon camera than the Nikon. I am referring particularly to the RAW file adjustment / conversion to 16 bit TIFF. My PC takes for ages to launch photos to view. Does anyone have any comments or is anyone able to recommend alternative software?

I suppose the first question you should ask yourself is your PC up to it.
The Canon 16 bit tiff files will be approx 50Mbytes. Do you have enough free memory to keep these files in RAM as opposed the PC using part of your Harddisk as temp memory. The Harddisk will be many thousand times slower than RAM.

If you assume that the two bits of software were doing like for like, the Canon software has 30% more pixels to process so I would expect it to take 30% longer.

See you also posted this in another forum, but i'll repeat reply anyway:

The only time we use Canon software is when we have to extract JPGs from RAWs on my wife's 300D. With our 20Ds we just copy the files on to the computer and open RAW files in Photoshop CS. Have also downloaded the free version of Raw Shooter Essentials, but have yet to give it a workout.

There is absolutely no help available for that horrible Canon software - and it isn't just the software - the RAW format Canon files are half the problem.

I suggest you immediately box up the camera and then PM me for my address. You can relieve yourself of the suffering by sending the camera to me. I will see to it that the evil Canon never bothers you again!
