Hi,

I am new to BF (and bird watching) and Photography, I was wondering if anyone knows of any wheelchair accessible sites in the Herts/Beds area, possibly a good place to get some good photos?

I checked out RSPB, Sandy and Fowlmere are close to me, so I think I will check them out. Looks like they have good wheelchair access?

Thanks

You could check out Rye Meads at Hoddesdon in Herts. A number of the 7 hides on the main reserve are get into able and one on the Herts & Essex side (but ask at reception about that) Annoyingly what has become a super hide for Kingfisher shots (moorhen hide) is not (has stairs). 1 has a downstairs view through and one a downstairs hide for wheelchairs.

Not the rarest selection of birds but ......... oh and nowadays entry is free.

Hi Nick,
Unfortunately not too many around this part of the country, although Broxbourne Woods have just put in paths for wheelchairs. However, this time of the year not best for birding. As mentioned Rye Meads is good. I vist Amwell gravel pits on a regular basis which can realise over 30 species, including goldeneye and smew at this time of the year (very photogenic). If you need assistance to visit this or other sites in East Herts/West Essex then please PM me and I shall be happy to help. Am out birding most weekends either Sat or Sun. This Saturday am planning on taking a bird club I run for youngsters to Rye Meads RSPB, so if you are at a loose end we shall be there between 10.15 and 1.00. Let me know if you fancy a trip to Amwell.
