I shall be spending New Year near Gloucester. Has anybody any recommendations for good places for birding within about an hours drive of the city? I might try Nagshead which I have never been to. I would appreciate some ideas about that reserve or others that could be interesting at this time of year.

Thanks,

Keith

Lots of good sites nearby, have a look at The Gloster birder's website http://www.birder.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ should give you plenty of info/ideas and uptodate sightings.

Slimbridge would be a good bet - lots of wildfowl that time of year - about 30 mins down the motorway.
Try http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/severnsidebirds for details of sightings further downstream at Severn Beach
