I was out and on the road at 8:00 this morning. My first 3 birds for the year:
House Sparrow, European Starling, Rock Dove :clap: . I hope that isn't a bad omen....

I'll follow-up this thread with new sightings. The current yearly total will be shown in my .Sig

All birds that I have photos for will be in blue. Lifer photos will be in bold blue
Birds without photos will be in black, lifers without photos will be in bold black.

I will also post pictures when I am able to take them. But the pics may not be from the same day that I am reporting the species to this list. But the pics will all be from this year.

Follow-up posts will only include new species.

Interesting (to me) note - this count of 26 species today represents 1/3 of my total local-area year list for last year. Last year was my first birding year and many of the species I ticked today were seen and allowed to go un-ticked because I could not identify them due to inexperience last year. I think I am improving :D

(A note about the picture: It is of terrible quality. I actually watched this bird for several seconds as it sat motionless on a tree limb after having been flushed from it's foraging on the ground. I immediately ruled out wrens - I know what wrens are. The only other possible contender was the Louisiania Watersthrush, but this bird had no streaking on its breast - what look like streaks in the photo are actually branches)

Saw today at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (Maryland):

Total crap pic, don't waste your time! It was a ways off, but I was able to tell it had a yellow bill, dark legs, was hunting for food on the ground - not water (*DING *DING), had a much shorter neck than either the Great or Snowy egrets and moved with very exagerated head bobbing.
