You agree on everything! That's interesting but I would like to get more opinions. I think it will be interesting.

Whatever you're willing to buy me. The Zeiss FL would be fine. I'm not fussy.

6)What size of binoculars do you prefer if you could have
only one pair for birding?

10x42

7)What binoculars do you feel are the best buy for the

I'm partial to the Leica 10x42 Ultravid - especially for the money I have available.

1) Don't know. I haven't tried them all. ;)
2) Nikon LXL 8x32
3) Nikon SE 8x32 (though closer to $600 on average)
4) Nikon Monarchs
5) Up for debate. I haven't decided completely.
6) 8x42
7) Nikon Monarchs or Sporters

Can you tell I favore Nikon? ;) Though there are a plethora of excellent bins out there in each of the categories you listed.

1. For my purposes, probably the 10&15X Leica Duovid. Boy, would I like to have one of those.
2. The Nikon LXLs that have been mentioned (and which would be my choice) don't actually qualify here because the cost more than $1000 (at least the full size models do.) So, I'm in a quandry between either the 10X40 Zeiss ClassiC, the 10X42 Leupold Gold Ring, or the 10X42 Kahles.
3. 10X42 Bushnell Discoverer
4. 10X42 Bausch and Lomb Discoverer Porro Prism from Cabela's ($180)
5. Roof Prism
6. 10X42 (though I really don't think I could limit myself to just one binocular.)
7. 10X42 Bausch and Lomb Discoverer Porro Prism from Cabela's ($180) ;) (You just can't beat the optical performance to cost ratio that these provide.)

Greetings!

My picks:

(1) Swarovski EL 8x32
(2) Leica Trinovid BN 7x42
(3) Nikon HG 8x32
(4) B&L Discoverer 10x42 or 7x42 (Tie)
(5) Roof Prism - Because of ergonomics and waterproof-ness
(6) 35mm - preferably 7x power
(7) Leica Trinovid BN 7x42 - Can be found for under $800, and simply the most awesome optics of ANYTHING under $1,200.

Best wishes,
Bawko
