This Bird was sleeping in Arctic Norway on the Barents Sea coast, just a few yards from his (former?) breeding grounds. Smaller than a Dunlin (...so it's NOT a winter plumaged Dunlin!!!!!)
Photo taken in late July.
SO WHAT IS IT?

The bird is clearly a Chalidrid and describing it as smaller than Dunlin could include some of the American 'peeps' But if it is breeding in the Barents sea area it narrows down the choice considerably to either Little Stint, Purple Sandpiper or Temminks Stint.

Purple Sandpiper has bright yellow legs, Temminks Stint is never that rufous, and also has yellow legs.

My vote goes for Little Stint;)

Hmm, looks a little bit like a spring plumage sanderling, but could also be a juvenile of almost any sandpiper/stint species.

Sorry to have made you wait for 4 years but yes, it WAS a Little Stint on Ekkeroy Island in Arctic Norway (Barents Sea).
Cheers
