Is it the Spanish or the Mallorcan one.

If it is the Mallorcan one I started a thread regarding information on hotels in the area and some very good birding information was put on it.

Here is a link to it http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=19755&highlight=albufera

It might be worth checking out these I have found from doing a name search.

The S'Albufera is to the south of Alcudia, to shorten your walks make sure the hotel is towards the southern edge of the town. The hotels do get up close to the edge of the S'Albufera and a good travel agent should be able to sort you out with one a nice easy stroll away.
Have a great time, it's too long since I was there, must start looking at a similar trip myself.

towards the rear of Alcudia, near the "showgrounds" there is large hotel/apartment complex with a large undeveloped area of scrub, which, 2 years ago in May was bursting with birds. Just across the way from the apartment block ( Siesta 1 ) was a road which had some smallholdings and riding stables, again excellent early morning birding before buying the fresh bread for breakfast. Near the Aquapark is a smaller wetlands, where there was a colony of bee-eaters but there was talk of a golf course being built there.

The area near to the park entrance is called Playa de Muro and some British tour companies advertise this particular area seperately from the hotels in Alcudia itself.http://www.playademuro.net/playamuro/ingles.nsf/dondealojarse?OpenForm gives a map of the area and a list of hotels, some overlook the park.Hope this helps.

The biggest selection of birds will be found in the S'Albufera natural reserve. The list of birds observed is updated every 15 days and can be found on the following link. Best regards

In june should get Red-crested Pochard; Marbled Duck & White-headed Duck are outside possibilities but Ferruginous is very unlikely. Expect Purple Swamp-hens(Gallinule) & Red-Knobbed Coot (probably wearing neck collars). Should do well with herons -expect Grey, Purple, Night & possibly Squacco with Cattle, Little & possibly Great White Egret as well as Little Bittern (esp. at the 'three bridges'). Raptors should include Osprey & plenty of Marsh Harriers with occasional Eleonora's Falcon overhead hawking dragonflies. Look out for Moustached & Great Reed Warblers as well as possible Savi's & of course Nightingales everywhere. Sadly terns are unlikely with Black, Whiskered & Gull-billed being uncommon passage migrants rather than breeders. Check the 'canal' outlet to the sea as Audouin's Gull is frequent here with possibe distinctive Med. race of Shag.

Should be plenty of squacco on the canal banks in June.

Personally I would avoid Alcudia unless you like big and noisy resorts. Much better is Puerto Pollensa which has a regular bus service to S'Albufera that also passes S'Albufereta. In addition you have access to Boquer Valley and plenty of gulls etc loafing in the bay.

Also remember that june in Mallorca can be very hot and walking a long distance if you're in the "wrong" part of Alcudia is very tiring.

Bike hire is a good alternative as the roads are all pretty flat around that area.

I'd agree - I spent a week in Alcudia (Alcudia Pins Hotel) in April - brilliant birds (and beach) but as a holiday destination Pto Pollenca is much nicer and has more choice of habitats.

You should get small numbers of marsh Terns in June, but the raptors should be good with the tail end of any Honey Buzzard migration and the Eleanora's in full swing.

cycling is an excellent option, you can use the back lanes to avoid the busier coastal road (although the latter has the benefit of better viewpoints over the Albufereta between Pto Pollenca and S'Alcudia).
