Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your support the online petition now stands at 1753 as at 6.45 am Friday 17th March.

I have just received this link

http://timesofmalta.com/core/article.php?id=217931

which surely shows the government of Malta have actually decreased their efforts to stop the hunting. How many of them are hunters (murderers) themselves is what I ask?

As they are now a member state of the European Union they must be made to obey this law as we in the rest of the EU do.

Now more than ever the birds need our protection and I have heard, Italy, Cyprus and Greece are waiting to see if they get away with it, their own guns ready for action again (my own words folks).

Now is the time for Commissioner Dimas to act and prove he is the right man for the job, or what faith can anyone of us have in the Bird Directive or any other environmental/conservation laws.

I know Malta only has a small police force the EU must help them out, they can find money for other things please please we need protection now for the birds of the world.

The time for talking is over now the birds need action. We must see the laws enforced, I for one am not going to stop (honest I don't know what I can do?) but keep writing.

Thank you for your support, don't stop and in a few months be asking why are we seeing less birds, where have they gone?

... and when we have passed the 2000 mark I will send off another batch of sigs to the EU.

Attached is an excellent example of how writing to your MEP can get things moving.

Here is an extract:

A number of my fellow (MEPs) .......jointly sent questions to the European Commission regarding this issue.

.....the European Parliaments Petitions Committee yesterday morning debated the issue of the transposition of the EU Birds Directive in Maltese law. ....... Mr Stephanos Ampatzis from DG ENVI/ Unit 2 Infringements made clear that: the Commission was not satisfied with the figures in the report presented by the Maltese government in November.

The proposed derogation is still under study and the Commission is now waiting for a new report. ....Mr Ampatzis said that the Commission is concerned that granting Malta derogation on spring hunting would serve as a simple extension of the autumn hunting season which is prohibited by the European Court of Justice.

.... the Commission will have a meeting at the end of March to discuss whether the transposition of the Birds Directive had been effective in Malta.

The Commission will send a delegation of MEP's in order to investigate the situation in Malta. The time and place of the visit will not be communicated beforehand.

Hi David,

Thank you for the post. It is very good news that a delegation of MEP's is going to make an unannounced visit, shows they are taking the matter seriously and things are moving in the right direction.

Thank you again for keeping us up to date.

Ann :t: :flowers: I hope to see more birds :flyaway:
