Has anyone tried using a sigma 120-300 f2.8/ Nikon TC-20E combination ?
I have modified the TC so it will fit, but the AF is not locking on, just zooms in and out, has anyone found the same thing or is there something else to this ?

I think it will not work. The TC-20EII autofocuses only with the long Nikon AFS lenses. The Sigma x2 TC will probably work.

I have tried the Sigma 2x but there was so much loss in quality it wasnt worth using, not sure if the newer ones are any different. I tried a Nikon TC-201 and the images were much better but of course I lost the AF.

x2 TCs usually output a little lower quality than x1.4 TCs. This is true for Nikon TCs too and I've got them both. Did you try a x1.4 TC?
The Sigma EX TCs should work, and from my experience, the Sigma x1.4 TC is of good quality.

I use this lens with both the 1.4 & 2 TC, I agree there is a loss of quality noticable at high magnification with the 2x but I find the 1.4 very acceptable.

Yes I found the 1.4 sigma to be very good and not much in the way of focussing speed lost, I may try a different sigma 2x as they all seem to differ, perhaps a newer version will be improved, anyone tried the new DG version ?
Manually focussing the TC20e is much better quality just wish it would AF !
