I have noticed that there are very few female birders posting messages from the UK. Maybe they are all hiding behind male sounding names . Just curious about why that should be so.
Or is it not a common practice for females to be active birdowatchers in UK??
I am not including 'Nina' in this!!! You are about the only one and well done too.

What about me then? I know my BF name is generic, but I always use my real name in the signature.

I think you are probably right about the number of active female birders as opposed to male. The females I normally see are with a male partner - I see very few out birding on their own. Maybe it's a safety thing. If my other half cannot, or doesn't want to, go out, I usually go with my sister.

I'm also a female UK birder. It seems to be true that there are more men than women birding in the UK. Why I'm not sure ... although there are more male train-spotters, philatelists, memorabilia collectors etc etc. Maybe it's a collection thing!

I'm glad to hear that the female birders inUK are alive and well though not as prevelant as the male species.Maybe they are too busy to have time to get on the computer or can't push their partners off it.
I go out alone without any worries or with another female but I'm in a very different country. I think I still would even in England, certainly I have gone out birding in Ireland alone in fairly recent years (thats where I was born). Maybe a few more will come out of the woodwork and reveal themselves.
I'm fairly new to the Forum and enjoy it very much. Thought the GGBC was a tremendous effort (mostly made by MEN!!! Congratulations.

I've no problem there, we both have our own computer. My problem is my camera has gone back in for repair for the second time. It was away for a month I got it back, and was told it had been put right. So off I went on my holiday and took 135 photo and not one was in focus. So it's gone back, It is an automatical and the focus is'nt working on the zoom. By the way it's a Kodak 3600 and I don't recomend them to anyone.

I'm a female birder in the UK too. There are probably more of us than you think, though I don't think I've ever seen anyone my age (early twenties). It seems to be something that women get into when they're a bit older, compared to the lads.

I manage to do most of my birding with friends, though I'm not afraid to get out and about on my own. Nearly all my birding is done around Peterborough, where I live (have got into local yearlisting and I'm not doing badly at all...). I'm also starting ringing training shortly.
