After reading many of the recent articles on digiscoping and seeing some of the shots achievable, even for a complete novice, I'm keen to have a go. My only experience of cameras is an Olympus OM10 which, I'm still a fan of (for family photos etc). Therefore, I looking for some expert advice on what to buy given a limited budget (I have been reading some of the previous threads that talk about starting up the hobby on approx £250). Many of the cameras mentioned in previous threads are obsolete and have been superceded by newer models.

I have a Leica APO 77 Televid scope with a 32x eyepiece. What guidance can you give on compact digitals that would be compatible with this scope and what other equipment would I need to get me started.

Chris,
Keep checking around and gather as much info as you can. Don't be too quick to dismiss cameras that are "obsolete", however. Many really great digiscopers use older cameras because they work as well as, or better than, many newer cameras. I have a semi-selfish point of view, however, as I used the Coolpix 990, am switching to DSLR, and have the CP990 for sale. If interested, check out "Coolpix 990 Digiscoping Outfit" in the "Classifieds-For Sale or Wanted" forum on this site. All you'd need in addition is an adapter, which would not be difficult to find for your scope (see the "Adapters" forum at this site).

Gernerally speaking any camera with a 3x optical zoom should work fine - a good quality lens and large LCD will help too.

I started a thread a while back about digiscoping on the cheap that may be of help - http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=44480
