Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any particulary strong opinions on why I would want to buy a Sony DCS-W1 over a Sony DSC-W5. Im interested in messing around a bit with digiscoping with my Fieldscope III 60mm and both these cameras seem as though they would be a great choice. The only differences I see is the body design and onboard memory storage in the w5(32mb)...neither of which I feel are worth spending the extra cash. The image quality seems to be the same, both 5mp cameras with the same size CCD, but maybe other parts of the camera are higher quality?

Just curious if anyone has had experience with these two cameras, thanks

I have been using a W7 on my digiscope kit and I am very happy with it. I like the larger pixel count so I have more room to crop.

Hi Erik,

I don't have strong opinions (never tried a W1), but some users here http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/sony-cybershot-dscw1-reviews.html have complained that the autofocus in the W1 wouldn't be particulary fast and reliable. My experiences with the W5 and W7 are quite opposite.

Tried both the DSC W1 & DSC W5 out and I couldn't tell the difference in terms of image quality. Would go for the cheapest model out of the two.
