I'm going to Tenerife in a couple of days, does anyone know what sort of bird life i can expect to see at this time of year?

If you go to the right places the two Canary endemic pigeons and the Canary endemic Blue Chaffinch, also Canary etc.
In terms of rare birds for Tenerife the Rare Birds Spain website will give you an idea what is about and is updated fairly regularly.
The well known book by Clarke and Collins is a must if you are planning to go to the best sites.
Stephen.

I was on Tenerife 3 weeks ago on a family holiday and without trying to hard I picked up quite a good list.
It is well worth visiting Las Lajas picnic site not only for the Blue Chaffinches which are just wandering around the picnic tables and the Canaries and Great Spotted Woodpeckers but for the stunning views climbing the mountain to reach it.
I used the field guide Where to watch birds in Tenerife by Eduardo Garcia del Ray and although some of the sites mentioned are now building sites most of it is still relevant.
You can find my Tenerife list in my 2006 list in the forum 2006 lists under my user name Kendon
Good luck

Don't forget Berthelot's Pipit.
I found them quite easy to see along the beach front at Los Christianos.
Spanish Sparrow is very common in the towns, and remember to look out for the Tenerife forms of common birds such as Blue Tit and Chiffchaff
