The name Nidularia striata is now mainly associated with bamboo. The modern name for this fungi is Cyathus striatus. The common name being "Bird's Nest Fungus". It can still be found in Northampton (http://www.ma.psu.edu/cgi-bin/pacma/search?3+Nidularia+striata).

It grows on wood debris (http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Cyathus_striatus.html).
