I am going on holiday to Cornwall in early May. I am staying on the Lizard does anyone know the best places for birding in that area and what birds should I look out for. I know the area fairly well but any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Have a look at this site http://www.sennen-cove.com/birds.htm.
It's updated daily and will let you know what's about, including The Lizard, if anything unusual is reported from there.
Breeding Choughs are the main highlight and a manned viewing station is set up to cater for this.
have a good holiday

Are the Choughs present at the Lizard all year round? I'll be going in early August (2007).

For migrants try Church Cove, drive down past Ann's Famous Pasty Shop and park by Church. The trees around the Church are worth a look. The tarmac road leads down to the cove and a footpath on the left leads to a small bushy valley and then back around to the Church.
Nearby at Helston the Loe Pool is worth a visit. Roger

When i've been down to Cornwall in August the last three years for the family holiday I've seen them in two of the years. The first two years I went on the guided walks and we had great views of them. Last year the guided walks had finished by then and walking most of the footpaths I couldn't find them. I think they begin to disperse early in August so you might be lucky.

I forgot to mention the Windmill Farm Reserve which is only a couple of miles or so from Lizard. Have a look at the CBWPS web site
http://www.cbwps.org.uk/Windmill%20Farm.htm
The entrance is easy to miss if you don't know where it is but if you are coming from Helston the turning is on your right one and a half miles after the B3296 road goes off to Mullion. Look out for the "Wild Camping" sign and then take the next turn on your right and follow the lane straight on until you arrive at the Reserve Centre.

Thats some rough lane too - I was there a few months ago and some scrapes had been dug beyond the reserve centre and to the left.
You can't really miss the reserve as the remains of the Windmill are still there.
Next door is Predannack airfield but I'm not sure about any access there.

Just noticed this thread. Been at the lizard today. The Choughs were not around this afternoon, but three of them were seen at Lands end yesterday. Try Kynance Cove for Dartford Warblers. Had great views of male and female today.

Kynance Cove is also good for the Chough's. I found them there last year, or possibly the year before, just after they'd fledged.
