Cuckoos at my local patch today.

Saw 2 Cuckoos at my local patch this morning(Marsh Lane in the West Midlands).They were flying round one of the pools for quite a while and they stopped a couple of times on some railway wires at the back of the hide.

I was pleased because I had'nt seen one for a couple of years.I was wondering if they were getting rare these days and is it early to see them in mid April.

Not sure whether 23rd counts as 'Mid' April or not!

I've just alluded to this date in a thread in Ruffled Feathers. An old villager always told me of a local saying from an even older villager who had told him as a boy: 'You'll seldom hear the Cuckoo afore April the 23rd but you'll hear it directly afterwards' so you're about spot-on with the timing I'd say.
