View Full Version : Is the Fuji F11 worse than the F10??

I've heard three things that worry me about the Fuji F11, which I am thinking of buying for digiscoping as well as general use.

Firstly that at the same F stop as the F10 it gives a slower shutter speed under the same conditions. This would make a nonsense of the ISO settings wouldn't it? Can it be true? Any direct comparisons of the two cameras out there?

Secondly the issue about vertical banding in dark areas that it seems was not a problem in the F10 and might suggest that the F11 uses a different sensor/algorithm for noise reduction that performs worse that the F10s.

Thirdly that the focus is not always that sharp compared to the competition.

Any opinions anyone?

Thanks,

Sean Offord

I've compared the F11 to the A95 and found the light gathering to be an issue (resulted in the fantastic ISO capabilities being useless).
I doubt there is a significant degradation from the F10, but who knows...

Hi Sean

I asked for any serious comparisons on the Dpreview camera website many months ago and got some good answers that largely allayed my fears. So do a search their in the Fuji forum.

I use an F10 and it is very very good. I always use it in the 'manual' mode set at -1/3 and with spot metering set.

I know RedBishop has had some issues with the one he tried, but in my opinion it has been a stunning performer on all the scope and binocular systems that I have at home. (which are largely inexpensive)

I am going to get an F11 as a backup and because it has better manual control. Which means you could set the shutter speed as to what you want.

The F10 is such a good performer at ISO400 (and even ISO800 on a bright day produces no noise). That most of my digiscoping photos are between 1/300th and 1/1500 second. Note: I do not use zoom eyepieces and have no idea how much light they cut down.
