Hello all,
I regularly read the posts on this forum but have never bothered to put my own posts on until now but I really feel that everyone should hear this.
A pair of hen harriers attempted to nest in Northumberland this Spring and English Nature organised an around-the-clock watch to protect the birds which involved local birders, including several BF members.
They were not on keepered land but there were keepered estates nearby and it was felt that an attempt would be made to harm them or the nest.
However, the watch system seemed to be working and Operation Artemis and local police were also involved.
English Nature were planning to open the site to the public, with a viewing screen and guides in place.
Sadly this is as far as this nest got and it has failed due to 'unnatural circumstances'.
My main reason for posting this is to give as much publicity as poss to such events. The BBC are at the site today and I will keep you all informed as to when this will be on the TV.
We have all been robbed of some truly fantastic birds!!
