I'm going to Kilmartin for a few days in a couple of weeks.

Anyone know any good birding spots round there?

Hi Delia,

Pop into the cafe next to the church in Kilmartin - the FC have set up a webcam in a Jackdaw nesting box and you can watch the action live on a TV! They should have a blue tit webcam up and running by now too.

Crinan Moss is right on your doorstep (there's a hide on the Crinan Canal towpath, take a trip to Keils (Keillmore - estuary and loch, good for otters, divers, etc.), Taynish NR (huge oakwood) or Knapdale Forest (and the gorgeous Fairy Isles). If you want to go further afield you could try the Machrihanish Seabird Observatory (down the Mull of Kintyre) and I love Southend for birding (tip of the Mull).

I used to live a few miles south of Kilmartin so know the area well, I'll PM you with more details over the weekend.

In the meantime take a look here:

Go to 'publications' and download a few copies of 'The Eider', they'll give you a few ideas.

West Loch Tarbert is a good area and there should be quite a few nice summer plumaged Great-northern Divers there when you visit.

Thanks Andrew, that sounds a good one. I think my sister would like to visit Gigha, so I can tag along quite happily:king:
